ARCANUM (aka INDEX 3)
Kreng in concert (HOME)
After Snuff (2009) and Phantasmapolis (2010), Arcanum (2011) is the closing part of a trilogy. This INDEX-trilogy is an attempt to catalogue the elements with which Abattoir Fermé has created theatrical worlds (Tourniquet, Mythobarbital,...) in the past. A comprehensive index that lists, organizes, dissects and purifies the materials of the Abattoir-universe.
Wheras Snuff focussed on a visual language and Phantasmapolis was all about 'text', Arcanum deals with 'sound' and is not even a theatre performance. It is first and foremost a concert.
Arcanum makes use of Abattoir's passion
for dark and cinematographic soundscapes, for archiving sound, for the particular
'grain' that one finds on old cassettes, records and cilinders...
Kreng, Abattoir's home composer and score-maker, is assisted by two colleagues:
Bram Bosteels (Kaboom Karavan) & Thijs Louis. They perform combining laptop,
guitar and self-made devices. The composition is accompanied by visuals, or
rather by a film referring to the old and melancholy 'film poems' of the 1910's
& 1920's.
A sneak preview of this work will be shown at the excellent Unsound festival in Krakow (Poland) on 23. October 2010. The official première will be on 2. February 2011 @ kc nOna in Mechelen (Belgium).
